Independent Cadbury Call

1.43.00pm GMT Mon 4th Jan 2010

Councillor Dave Radcliffe

Councillor Dave Radcliffe has urged Peter Mandelson, Secretary of State for Business, Innovation & Skills, to support the independence of Cadbury. Cadbury is currently fighting against a hostile takeover bid by Kraft.

Dave and Councillor Paul Tilsley, Leader of Birmingham's Liberal Democrat Council Group, have sent a joint letter. They emphasised that Cadbury is an iconic Birmingham brand and that it deserves more than to be asset stripped by the Kraft conglomerate.

In addition, they said:

"Cadbury's also contributes to the City as a successful manufacturer and employer, as well as being a major draw for tourism. Every year, thousands of visitors come to the Selly Oak area to visit Cadbury world, as well as other local attractions."

"We mustn't let a quick profit come before our heritage."
